Welcome to Woodstock Cottage
Woodstock Cottage, in East Devon, can be found near the village of Chardstock, just 3 miles from Axminster and 9 miles from the World Heritage Jurassic coast at Lyme Regis. With the 2012 Olympic Games coming soon, we are just over an hour away from the sailing events at Weymouth – there’s even a bus from Axminster, so you don’t have to worry about parking.
The small market town of Axminster lies in the Axe Valley with its quaint villages and unspoilt countryside. The town, famous for its world-renowned carpets, has a good range of eating, shopping and leisure facilities and is now home to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Stores and Canteen. The River Cottage HQ at Park Farm, where they hold special events, courses and dinners is only a short distance outside the town.
From Woodstock Cottage the local village of Chardstock is a mile up the lane, with its friendly village store and Post Office,16th century thatched inn, The George, and ancient church of St Andrews.
Near the borders of Dorset and Somerset and within the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Woodstock Cottage is perfectly located for exploring the Devon and Dorset coast – ideal for walkers and fossil hunters – as well as the surrounding countryside on the doorstep which is criss-crossed by numerous footpaths and quiet lanes. Further afield, the towns of Taunton, Dorchester and Exeter as well as stately homes and other places of interest are all within easy reach.
